Redesigning your Closet: Curating your Identity

Before conversation begins, our style speaks on our behalf. As a personal fashion stylist, with over 3 years of industry experience and having styled hundreds of clients across the globe, I truly believe that fashion is about more than simply how clothing looks on your body. Your wardrobe is a form of self expression and your silent introduction to almost everyone you meet.

If you’ve been thinking about and wanting to upgrade your style, the first thing you might do is go to Tiktok, Instagram, or Google and search ‘how to dress better’. What you’ll be met with is endless techniques, methods, and rules to follow such as The rule of 7, The Sandwich method, invest in good basics, and so on and so on, and don’t get me wrong, all of those methods work, and they’re good to know but they’re useless if you don’t know what your personal style is.

The most attractive look will always be the most authentic one. You can copy someone else's outfit piece by piece, incorporate the rule of 7, and invest in good quality basics but if that look is not in tune with you, it will not have that same wow effect that it had on the person you saw wearing it.

Each of us have different body shapes, proportions, skin tones, and preferences. Each of us carry a unique energy - and by following that aura, and staying in tune with it, we unlock our most authentic, and therefore most attractive look.

Molly Bingaman, founder of Ladybird Styling, explains it like this; Style can be divided into four distinct facets, and each person naturally resonates most strongly with one.

Group 1: Light, bright, and full of fresh ideas — your energy naturally moves toward what’s new. You love discovering and shopping for new pieces, so let your wardrobe reflect that vitality. Choose clothes in light, luminous colours, fabrics that float and move, and textures that feel animated and alive.

Group 2: Your style moves with ease and fluidity, taking its time with every detail. Your look is comfortable, relaxed, and inviting — it makes others feel welcome and at ease. Soft knits, slouchy silhouettes, and cozy textures dominate your wardrobe, where comfort is always key. You value pieces that linger, and parting with them doesn’t come easily.

Group 3: Your style moves with sharp, decisive energy, each gesture purposeful and driven. You are wired for efficiency, always seeking to accomplish and achieve — whether it’s tackling projects at home or seizing the day. Your wardrobe reflects this momentum: structured silhouettes, crisp textures, and pieces with a sense of movement that convey confidence, precision, and fierce determination.

Group 4: Your energy is deliberate and measured — movement only happens when it’s intentional, precise, and purposeful. You value your solitude and clarity, and your wardrobe mirrors that inner discipline. Bold, clean lines, minimalist silhouettes, and structured pieces reflect the way you move and express yourself. Your clothing doesn’t just accompany you — it moves with you, articulating your presence with quiet confidence.

The question is not whether or not you have style, it’s whether it is being expressed, and being expressed correctly.

So, how do you actually go about finding your personal style and your ‘most authentic look’?. Earlier this year I created my Curate your Signature Style Template - a 17-page, fully customisable guide designed to help you define, refine, and embody your personal style, and make dressing feel effortless.

To dress well is to know how to style your body. What is your body shape? What flatters it? What should you avoid? And, what will make you feel confident? My template starts with a page for each body shape that includes a concise blurb to help you identify your body shape, and discover the most flattering necklines, tops, dresses, and silhouettes tailored to you.

The following pages are for your inspiration. In the ‘notes’ section of the Canva template I have included clear instructions to personally guide you through the process of curating your personal style. Sourcing inspiration for your desired aesthetic is about more than just the look of clothing, I encourage you to pay attention to anything that speaks to you, architecture, food, art, etc. and include them in your personal style moodboard.

As I’ve mentioned before, fashion is about far more than the way clothes look — it’s about how they make you feel. My template pushes you to take a moment to consider your current wardrobe: which pieces make you feel most confident? Which colours, fabrics, patterns, and textures do you find yourself drawn to again and again and for what reason?

Now, you’ve done all of this work to discover your personal style, how do you actually stick to it? In the last page of the template I share my tips, tricks, and secrets for staying true to your desired personal style. The Curate your Signature Style Template is a digital PDF you can download, customise, and then keep on your phone, laptop, or iPad and refer back to whenever you need.

Bring this template along when you shop, so every piece you choose reflects your signature style and elevates your wardrobe with intention. Whether you’re building a luxury capsule wardrobe or refreshing your everyday looks, this template is your personal style blueprint — guiding you to shop smarter, dress with confidence, and curate a wardrobe that feels authentically you.

Your wardrobe is a reflection of your essence — curate it with purpose.
